Duo Motivos

Motivos Duo,  Music from South America, May 21, 8:00 pm, $15

Originating  from Colombia, Andrés Ocampo (1st voice and requinto) and Miguel Betancourt (2nd voice and guitar) tap into the rich repertoire of this mountainous country.  Ever since their meeting in Montreal in 2001, they`ve  developed a great bond due in part to their complementary talents. Motivos offers a journey in song where Valses, Rancheras, Sones, Cueca, Zamba, Pasajes Latin America in addition to the iconic British rhythms such as cumbia, the Bambuco and Paseo Vallenato. Accompanying  The  Motivos  duo will be the Colombian percussionist Jorge Gómez.

Jamie&Fernando

<Jaime Sandoval, Tenor, Fernando Saint Martin, piano, « Ecos de México » ,( Echos from Mecico), Friday March 5, 8 pm, $15. To celebrate the Centenary of the Revolution and the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico, the tenor Jaime Sandoval accompanied on piano by Maestro Fernando Saint Martin present a selection of beautiful traditional pieces together. Flamenco Al Alma

Flamenco Al Alma, Friday March 19, 7 pm, $15. Flamenco  Al Alma  is a show that combines four active freelance musicians from the local scene. Each one with a diverse artistic background, these regulars from the different tablaos of Montreal present the results of their association. On the program: Authentic flamenco, unpretentious and which reunites both aficionandos and connoisseurs. Flamenco al alma translates as . “Flamenco for the soul” … or ”soul-food flamenco”.

Dimitri Nassyrov

Dmitri Nassyrov and Victoria Khramova, Friday  February 26, 7 pm, $15. The duo of Dmitri Nassyrov and Victoria Khramova is unique in Quebec. This is not only due to the fact that the balalaika that Dmitri plays is a very rare instrument in this part of the world, but also to the varied repertoire of this duo. Lori & Richard

Théâtre Effet V presents, Lori Hazine Poisson & Richard Letendre, “Ils ont bu trop de fantômes”, November 20, 8 p.m. $15. Each piece has its own personality, to her, of her own. The author has manipulated, created using his language and his mannerisms. Through the voices of two actors, the characters will take other colors, other characters from one text to another. The senses will slide into one another and grow. Before our eyes, a variation of flavors and dramas, the ghosts that haunt the comedic shadows embodied in the black box when it opens its curtains for a moment.

LINKed

LINKed, physical theatre (english),  November 27, 8 p.m. $15. Jacqueline van de Geer and Soufia Bensaid, one an actress the other a dancer, one born in Holland and the other in Tunisia, both living in Montreal meet. One thing unites them: their obsessions. How to get in touch with oneself and with others around the body and energy?What kind of impact can a presence, a gesture, an action provide a crossroad of two solo pieces or is it a collaboration piece?  LINKed is the poetry of links who seems to emerge from different universes. This piece has strong visuals and is a dance/theatre creation. We invite the audience to install theirselves around the performers.

Surkalen

Surkalen from Chile, ethno-fusion music from Chile, December 20 2009, 8 p.m. $15. The word Surkalén consists of the words “Sur” from our South American origins and “Kalen”, which means “different” in a  language called Selknam (Selknam: ancient inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego). Giving a tribute to a people which disappeared because of the cruel ignorance of man, Sandra, Claudio and Rony explore and discover new musical experiences every day.  Welcome to our works as we create new paths and be a new light of awareness.

Fogon

Fogon, rhythms from Argentina and Chile,  December 11 2009, 8 p.m. $15. (Fogón : Large Bonfire where people gatther). Hugo Guerrero, Pascal Bujold, Alberto Torres and Gustavo Tanoni are four musicians from different backgrounds that produce a unique sound where every culture evolves and is enriched through contact with those of others. Fogón is the result of the meeting of an Argentine and a Chilean, who, together, find their roots in the sound of guitars, and a Quebecer who has rediscovered its roots in a meeting with the folklore of Argentina

Irem Bekter and her Diabluras, rhythms from Argentina,  December 18 2009, 8 p.m. $15. Presenting  an original synthesis of the hot rhythms of South America and various musical languages through the creation of arrangements we dare call “typical Montreal”  This summary reflects the juxtaposition of styles (classical, contemporary, jazz, folk, Andean), instruments blending indigenous sounds and modern strong and diverse Western culture.
